The EU-TRACE project (EUropean Transformers ACcelerated Efficiency) focuses on maximizing the energy savings potential of the accelerated replacement of old, inefficient distribution and industrial transformers. EU-TRACE aims to generate an additional 2.1 TWh/year in electricity savings over the next 20 years by facilitating the accelerated replacement of these transformers through the development of new policies and tools for monitoring, evaluating, and projecting policy impacts across 7 EU Member States (Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium).
The IIT's participation focuses primarily on analysing regulatory proposals that can be adopted for transformers owned by distribution network operators, as they are regulated entities.
